West Canberra Wanderers showed their class, and the gulf between the Women’s National Premier League and their State League counterparts by ending White Eagles cup run with a 10-0 victory in the Federation Cup Quarter Final fixture played at Woden Park.
The Semi-Final place was never really in doubt for the higher-ranked team from the moment they were able to pierce the Eagles defence inside the opening three minutes of the match as midfielder Demi Nikias put the visiting team in front, settling any perceived nerves in the process.
Eagles, who turned over Burns FC 1-0 in the previous round, were on the backfoot for most of the opening half and found themselves further adrift as Lauren Hall increased the Wanderers lead on seventeen minutes, before Alexandra Gidis added the third eleven minutes before the break.
Rafaella Puli ensured that Wanderers progression was almost assured when she struck the fourth goal of the evening a couple of minutes before the teams left for half-time, as West Canberra flexed their muscles.
Sarah Whitfield put any shred of doubt to bed by scoring twice in the space of three minutes at the commencement of the second stanza, thereafter the game entering a period of lull, before the Wanderers added to the scoreboard in the final quarter of the encounter.
Allegra Senti was able to score a brace of goals within seven minutes of each other to further increase the lead, before a stoppage time goal from Audrey Ward brought up double figures and ended Eagles gallant run.
