Gungahlin United eased into the Semi-Finals of the Federation Cup as they clinically knocked out ANU WFC with a convincing 6-0 victory at the Australian Institute of Sport in the first of the Quarter Final matches.
Two goals in the opening half had Gunners in the driving seat, and from there they were able to kick-on and pick off the University side as they came searching for a way to keep themselves in the competition.
The opening goal was scored by Ginger Oliver, the winger playing a short one-two with midfielder Stella De Marco before curling a splendid finish over Olivia Kent from outside the penalty area, and one became two before the break when Oliver netted her second with another cracker.
A throw-in from Alex Nealand was picked up by Oliver who dribbled past a couple of attempted challenges, before curling into the top corner for a sensational goal and one that knocked the stuffing out of ANU WFC.
They kept plugging away after the break, after all that’s the mentality that Tom Crossley always installs in his teams’, but Gungahlin were ruthless in chasing the result. Sharon Chao finessed a finish at the neat post after bring release one versus one, and Alissa Barbour added the fourth with nine minutes to go.
That goal precipitated a flurry of three in six minutes for Gungahlin, Oliver completing her hat-trick with a top corner effort after being teed up by the impressive Barbour, with captain Madeliene Perceval rounding off a perfect evening for Nick Van Aalst’s group by tapping in the sixth with three minutes remaining.
