Boomerangs White 10 (Nick Rathjen 3′, 20′, 23′, 30′, Ben Basser-Silk 18′, 25′, William Manalo 26′, Jonathan Ciminelli 40′, Leon Michl 40′) def. HNK O’Connor Knights 2 (Robert Hrstic 15′, Brandon Hawker 30′)
Boomerangs inflicted another heavy defeat on the O’Connor Knights in Round 5 thanks to four goals from Nick Rathjen. He opened the scoring after just five minutes, but Rob Hrstic restored parity with five minutes left in the half. That appeared to spark Boomerangs though, and they scored two in five minutes through Ben Basser-Silk and Rathjen to lead 3-1 at the break.
That was as close as the game got, with Boomerangs running away thanks to three more goals from Rathjen, a second from Basser-Silk and singles from Will Manalo, Jonathan Ciminelli and Leon Michl. Brandon Hawker scored for the Knights with 10 minutes to go but the scoreline was too far advanced for the visitors to work their way back in.
Timberwolves FC 4 (Ben Harrington 30′, Sam Carters 31′, Tom Consentini 34′, Tim Denne 35′) def. Canberra Olympic Superprawns 3 (Daniel Fulton 2′, Stephen Domenici 13′, 25′)
Robbie Cattanach deputised between the sticks for Canberra Olympic as four goals in the final 10 minutes lifted Timberwolves FC to a 4-3 win over the Superprawns. Olympic started strongly through Tom Fulton’s second minute goal and continued to pressure the Timberwolves backline. Stephen Domenici finished a good move 11 minutes later to increase the lead to two goals at the break, and the Superprawns appeared to be cruising when Domenici’s second stretched the lead to three with 15 minutes to go.
But a wild final ten minutes saw that all change, as four goals in five minutes saw Timberwolves take an unexpected lead as Olympic fell apart at the back, before a desperate Superprawns charge saw the Timberwolves under pressure for the final few minutes but hold out to take the win.
NCU Untouchables Navy 1 (Cameron Gordon 25′) def. Boomerangs FS Blue 0
A solitary goal from Cameron Gordon was enough to give NCU Untouchables a 1-0 win over Boomerangs Blue in Round 5 and jump level with fourth spot. An even first half saw neither side able to make major inroads, but Gordon’s goal just five minutes into the half proved to be enough as Untouchables saw out the final 15 minutes with a disciplined performance.
Boomerangs FS 1 (John O’Gorman 33′) def. by NCU Untouchables Red 2 (Benjamin Rolfe 13′, Connor Falusi 40′)
NCU Untouchables Red snatched a last gasp victory over Boomerangs FS to keep their spot in the top four secure. Benjamin Rolfe gave Untouchables the lead 13 minutes in as both sides traded efforts, and the score remained 1-0 at the break. Boomerangs came out for the second half looking to equalise, and did so with seven minutes remaining as John O’Gorman tied the game.
Just as it looked like the game would remain a draw Connor Falusi struck in the last minute of the game to snatch a win and leave Boomerangs efforts to comeback in vain.
