Capital Football are pleased to welcome Kearney Robinson as our new Capital Football – Referees Manager.
Robinson, who will start in the role on 30 January, is currently a FIFA listed Match Official and has experience in managing Member Federation referees through his previous role within Football NSW.
A veteran of 92 matches on the A-League as an Assistant Referee, Robinson will be relocating to Canberra to undertake the role and to ensure a strong level of connection with the local football community.
“We are delighted to welcome Kearney to the Capital Football family as our new Referees Manager,” Capital Football CEO Ivan Slavich commented.
“Refereeing, the recruitment and retention of in particular, are key concerns for us as an organisation and with Kearney on board we will be looking to further improve the quality of refereeing services provided to our great game.
“He brings a huge amount of experience to the role, and we are looking forward to him starting with us.”
Robinson, who was added to FIFA International List of Assistant Referees in 2022 making his A-list international debut in both men’s and women’s that same year, is looking forward to the opportunity.
“I am really excited to take on this opportunity and can’t wait to get going,” he said. “I have viewed Capital Football competitions from afar for several years and can see the growth potential for both refereeing and football as a whole.
“This relationship between Football Australia and Capital Football provides an exciting future for refereeing in the ACT and I cannot wait to be part of improving the overall experience for current and future generations of referees.”
Football Australia Head of Referees, Nathan Magill, is confident that Robinson will have a positive impact in the National Capital.
“I am pleased to welcome Kearney to the Football Australia Refereeing Department in this newly developed role in an exciting time for Australian Football,” Magill commented.
“With a World Cup on Australian soil, there has never been a better time to be a referee in Australia. Kearney was a standout candidate from the process and has demonstrated experience of how to develop structures and match officials at a member federation level.
“I am confident that Kearney will be able to drive refereeing program in Canberra forward to enhance the experience and engagement of local match officials.”
