Capital Football can today announce the appointment of Georgia Briggs to the Capital Football Board of Directors, filling the casual vacancy of former Director Richard Naumovski.
Georgia is the Principal Solicitor of Briggs Law, working as a generalist solicitor with specialisation in criminal, family, care & protection, and wills & estate law. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Law from the University of Canberra in 2015 and has been working in the legal industry since that time. She has twice been shortlisted as one of Australia’s top 10 best criminal lawyers under 30.
Along with running her firm, Georgia also teaches law at the University of Canberra (UC) and Charles Sturt University and is currently completing a PHD with UC in the area of Criminal Law and Sport Law.
A self-confessed sport lover, Briggs has a background as both a player and coach, primarily in netball and rugby league and told Capital Football she’s excited to get started.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of joining the ACT’s number one sport,” she said.
“I’m excited to strike up a conversation and learn as much as I can from the football community.”
Capital Football Chair Fran Sankey said Georgia’s appointment will add great value to the team.
“I’m delighted to welcome Georgia to the Capital Football Board. Her skills and experience in practising and teaching law, together with her community involvement and focus, complement the skills the Board is seeking at this time.
“A key focus of Principle X of the Football Australia XI Principles for the future of Australian Football is to appoint more women to decision making roles across the game. The Board is pleased to be able to provide an opportunity for Georgia to contribute to the success of football in a senior leadership and administrative role.”
If you see Georgia around representing Capital Football, be sure to introduce yourself!
Georgia’s appointment is for the duration of the Director’s term being replaced, in this case to the Annual General Meeting in 2024.
