Following on from Tuesday Night’s successful double-header at Woden Park, the Central Coast Mariners have announced the three players and coach from Canberra who have been selected as part of the Hyundai A-League Club’s Capital Draft initiative.
Canberra Olympic youngsters Jordan Tsekenis and Jeremy Habtemariam have been selected alongside Tuggeranong United 20-year old Andrew Slavich, with Luka Udjur of Belconnen United picked as a coach.
All four featured in the double-header at Woden on Tuesday, with Tsekenis starring in the first match as he scored a brace for Capital Select North Region against the Mariners. Udjur was the coach of the North Region side as they held the Mariners to a 2-2 draw.
On Wednesday at Woden Rebel, Central Coast Mariners’ CEO, Shaun Mielekamp made the announcement to media and outlined the Capital Draft initiative.
“Firstly I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Phil Brown and his team from Capital Football for hosting us last night and being so welcoming to us in Canberra,” Mielekamp said.
“The two games were great last night, we were really impressed with the quality and we are now in a position to announce the three players and a coach that will join us for a week.
“This morning I had the pleasure of contacting Jordan, Jeremy, Andrew and Luka to offer them the opportunity with us and they were all over the moon.
“All three players had stand out games against us last night and we are working with Capital Football to ensure that these opportunities continue in the future.
“In essence these players will join the club for a full trial, partake in an intra-club pre-season friendly and from there they are in the hands of the football department which is their opportunity to showcase what they can do,” Mielekamp said.
The Central Coast Mariners are working with the players and coach involved to ensure a suitable trial week is reached.
