The Powerchair Football Club Championships will once again be taking place in Sydney from the 2-7 May at the Quay centre.
Last year the Canberra United Powerchair team competed in their first ever Powerchair Football Club Championships in Sydney, enjoying the experience and this year they will be returning much more improved.
Since competing in the 2022 edition, Canberra United now understand what to expect, acknowledging that the teams competing are no easy beats and will provide severely tough opponents.
“To prepare for the Club Championships, the team has been doing lots of training since the start of February implementing what we learnt last year and expanding on new skills and ideas,” team Captain Brandon Stroud commented.
“As a team we recently participated in an intensive training camp delivered by Sydney FC Foundation and have picked up some new tricks of the trade which we will aiming to implement in our matches
“We have a few more training sessions before we go away in the first week of May. At the club championships we are hoping to be more attacking and a little less defensive.”
United begin their tournament with a tricky assignment against reigning champions Newcastle Jets on Tuesday 2 May, before a double-header twenty-four hours later against Melbourne City and beaten 2022 finalists Hills United.
Lions FC provide the opposition on Day 3, before another set of double-header fixtures to complete the round-robin matches with Adelaide Comets and Western Sydney Wanderers in wait on Friday, and Sydney FC and Moreton Bay Jets on Saturday afternoon.
“All the players are really looking forward to competing again and to show all the other teams how much we have grown since the last competition. We will be showing our never give up attitude and fighting spirit,” Stroud continued.
“I am confident that we can achieve some great results this time around and know that no matter what we will all enjoy ourselves!”
