Canberra Olympic 1 (Tsekenis 26′) def. by Edgeworth Eagles 4 (Kieran Sanders 15′, Josh Evans 44′, Daniel McBreen 75′, 89′)
A Daniel McBreen brace in a clinical performance has led Edgeworth to a 4-1 win over Canberra Olympic in the PlayStation4 National Premier Leagues Finals series at Deakin Stadium.
Captain Josh Evans gave the Eagles the lead on the stroke of half-time after Olympic’s Jordan Tsekenis cancelled out Kieran Sanders’ opener, and the visitors never looked back as McBreen sealed the match with a second half brace.
Both sides came out well but Edgeworth held more of the ball, and Will Bower caused trouble as he beat Angelo Konstantinou in the box down the wing, but Daniel Colbertaldo did well to cut out his cross.
Stephen Domenici blazed over for the hosts, and seconds later the Eagles grabbed the lead, as Josh Low’s goal kick was headed into the path of Sanders by McBreen and he finished truly past Konstantinou.
The leaders continued to hold sway with much of the ball, but in the 26th minute Olympic hit back. Josh Gulevski beat his man and broke into the box and after drawing the attention of Low, calmly squared the ball to Tsekenis to finish easily.
It looked like the sides would hit the break even, but as stoppage time loomed Evans rose highest to meet Sanders free kick and bury his header in the back of the net and make it advantage Edgeworth at the break.
Olympic had the first full chance of the second half on 66 minutes as Domenici broke into the Edgeworth area, but he had the ball knocked away as the hosts appealed for a penalty.
And less than ten minutes later the visitors edged away through a special goal. Sanders was again the creator, crossing the ball to McBreen at the top of the box and the former A-League star took a touch before lasing a volley into the top corner.
And there was still time to kill off the game for the visitors when McBreen was fed in behind by Adam Cawley in the 89th minute, and he paused before sliding the ball past Konstantinou to seal a likely home semi-final.
