The National Premier Leagues Boys competitions reached Round 12 on the weekend with yet more action across all our grounds both in Canberra and across the region. Here’s the latest news.
NPL14
West Canberra Wanderers eased to a 4-0 away victory over Majura FC at Dickson Playing Fields in the National Premier League Boys U14 competition, with Patrick Allen, Edward Saboisky, Niko Zapasnik-Grodecki, and Pater O’Brien on target. Isaac Carroll was on target again for Wagga City Wanderers as they defeated Canberra Olympic 2-1 at Rawlings Park, whilst there were no goals in the match between Woden Valley and Radford College, the teams forced to share the points in their fixture at Mawson 2. Over at Kaleen Enclosed, Nicholas Porter scored two for Belconnen United as they saw off Brindabella Blues 2-1, whilst Canberra Croatia defeated O’Connor Knights, coming from 0-1 down to win 3-1 through goals from Liam Charlton, Hamish Scanlan and a Jacob Lyell own goal. On Sunday, Tigers FC completed the round by defeating Monaro Panthers 7-0. The match between Gungahlin United and Tuggeranong United was postponed.

The points were shared at Dickson Playing Fields as Majura FC and West Canberra Wanderers drew 1-1 in NPL15. Clovis Rousseau gave Majura the lead before Yousef Abu Hamed equalised for Wanderers. Sobham Ray netted two goals for Gungahlin United in their 3-1 win over Tuggeranong United at Harrison, Woden Valley were too sharp for Radford College winning 4-0 at Mawson Playing Fields, and Wagga City Wanderers defeated ten-man Canberra Olympic 3-1 in the Riverina, Jackson Myers scoring twice for the hosts who wrapped up the points via a Charles Hindmarsh penalty. In the mini-Croatian derby Croatia walloped Knights 6-0 with five different scorers at Yarralumla, Antun Celebija (2), Zedric Velasquez, Elijan Birrell, Cooper Wykes and Cooper San Juan on target. Meanwhile, Belconnen United and Brindabella Blues drew 1-1, Marko Stanojevic scoring first for the Blue Devils, Ciaran Lau equalising for the Blues, and a Jack Hancock goal was enough for Monaro Panthers to beat Tigers Fc 1-0.

O’Connor Knights claimed an important away win in the NPL16 competition as they defeated Canberra Croatia 3-1 at Yarralumla on Saturday morning, Sebastian Peric, Marc Papandrea, and Dylan Penders scored the goals. A brace from Fermin Silberkasten, one from the penalty spot, helped Woden Valley to a 2-0 win over Radford College, and Gungahlin United came from 0-2 down to defeat Tuggeranong United 5-3 at Harrison, Andreas Kaskoutas scoring two for Gunners, with Matthew Sheriff doing likewise for the visitors. Elsewhere, Belconnen United trounced Brindabella Blues 8-1 at Kaleen Enclosed, Majura FC were too strong for West Canberra Wanderers at Dickson recording a 3-1 home victory, and a Benjamin Booth goal on the hour was enough for Canberra Olympic to win 1-0 away at Wagga City Wanderers. Meanwhile, goals from Daniel Poole, Mohammed Taee and Samson Scarano helped Tigers FC to a 3-1 win over Monaro Panthers.

Riley O’Sullivan helped himself to a hat-trick in the NPL18 competition as Tigers FC kept up their title challenge with a 6-2 hammering of Monaro Panthers at the Australian Institute of Sport. Belconnen United continue to lead the way though as they claimed a narrow 2-1 win over Brindabella Blues, Rhys Priestly and Frederick Kushnick scoring for the Blue Devils, Frazer Tohlima for Brindabella, whilst Canberra Olympic fell to a 0-2 defeat away to Wagga City Wanderers. O’Connor Knights took the derby bragging rights at this age group, stunning Canberra Croatia with a 4-1 victory at Yarralumla, Louis Lou, Kris Raad, Zain Durrani, and Willaim Tweddle from the penalty spot with the Knights’ goals. There was nothing between the teams at Dickson where Woden Valley and Radford College drew 0-0, while Majura FC were too strong for West Canberra Wanderers winning 4-2. Gungahlin Unitec kept up their title chase with a convincing 6-0 defeat of Tuggeranong United, a game in which Kwol Kwol scored twice, once from the penalty spot.
