South Canberra Swift laid down their marker in Round 1 of the Capital Futsal League at the Australian Institute of Sport Training Halls with a thumping 7-1 victory over the UC Stars, beginning their new season with exactly the type of performance that saw them reach the Grand Final last season.

With a settled squad, and the newcomers performing superbly, Swift were always in control of the fixture, making sure they got their year off to the best possible start, lethal in attack and parsimonious in defence, especially in the second stanza as the extra players on the roster told.

Kaitlyn Colwill had given the Swift a first-half lead, only for Eliza-Jane Norris to level matters shortly before half-time, leaving the sides all-square going into the break, but upon the return it was the Swift who clicked into gear.

Anneke Corry, a new signing for Season 3, looks to have goals in her boots and was to help herself to a hat-trick by restoring the lead, bagging a second after Samantha Price had made it 3-1, and completing the treble with the final goal of the evening to seal a stunning debut.

In between times there were more debut goals as Lauren Hall with the fifth, and Zoe Halpin, bringing up the half-dozen, both found the net on their first Swift appearance in the senior competition. The other two matches were postponed.
