Stephen Domenici sensationally stole the Capital Futsal League Golden Boot with a scarcely believable sixteen-goal haul as West Canberra Lightning ended the regular season by recording a record Men’s scoreline with a 31-1 annihilation of Queabeyan-Palerang Power at Radford College.
Sharpshooter Domenici went into the final match of the season needing fifteen goals to overhaul leader Romeo Jambrek of the South Canberra Swift and, against a Power side that was unable to field a regular goalkeeper, achieved that and more by setting a CFL record for most goals in a match by an individual.
Remarkably, Domenici netted thirteen of his goals in succession for the Lightning who led 12-0 at half-time and scored with impunity, Nathen Megic and Daniel Fulton helping themselves to half-a-dozen goals apiece in a display to which the Power had no answer on a chastening evening.
Josh Gaspari (2) and Ashley Blount also scored with Ezequiel Inochea netting for the dejected Power who were thankful for the final whistle. Lightning now set their sights on South Canberra Swift in Saturday’s Semi-Final.
