Further to the current closure of grounds for training, ACT Sport and Recreation have advised that turf sportsgrounds will be closed for all organised sporting use from Saturday to Wednesday inclusive (22 – 26 August).
This includes training and match play.
ACT Sport and Recreation have made this decision in light of monitoring of the current saturated state of the grounds and weather briefings which indicate a high likelihood of further rainfall in the coming days.
While ACT turf ovals are closed to all organised activities, the following facilities remain open:
- Synthetic pitches at Melrose and Nicholls
- Privately owned venues (Deakin Stadium, Hawker Football Centre)
- NSW Sportsgrounds
ACT Sport and Recreation acknowledge the challenges already experienced in the winter sporting season, however, continued use of turf ovals for training and match play will impact the integrity of the playing surface and present potential safety issues to participants.
Further assessment of grounds will be undertaken on Tuesday (25 August) and an update will be provided.
To find out if your match is going ahead, please check in with your team manager/coach or your club. If your club is unsure, they will contact the home club or Capital Football to verify.
