Capital Futsal will have a new competition in 2022 with a brand new look and feel as the Capital Futsal League gets underway in October.
Six new Clubs will enter a Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s team to play two complete rounds and Finals from October to December, with the Grand Final Champions in each winning $5,000, and one male and one female player selected as the ‘most valued player’ in each competition.
The new Capital Futsal League will play all games at Daramalan College in Dickson with a double header between two Clubs each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening during the season.
Up to 100 spectators will be able to attend to support their club, but all games will also be streamed live in an exclusive broadcast deal.
“Capital Football is very excited about this new competition, and we look forward to seeing its development throughout the debut year,” Capital Football CEO, Chris Gardiner, said of the new Capital Futsal League.
“Capital Football is putting in place a plan to significantly strengthen Futsal in Canberra and the Region and this competition is a big part of our major new direction for Futsal.
“We are aware that this is a large area of the sport that has been, in some respects, neglected in recent years and we are determined to make this the pinnacle Futsal event in Australia.”
In the first year, without a reserve grade, each senior male and female squad will have 11 players with flexible intakes for injuries through the season. Players selected in the squads will have their registration costs paid by Capital Football.
The competition will be played on international sized courts, under stop-clock rules, providing the only pathway to official selection for Australian international representative teams in Canberra and the surrounding region.
The six clubs have been chosen to represent a region of Canberra and will be named North Fire, West Lightning, South Swift, Queanbeyan-Palerang Power, UC Stars and ANU Apex.
