Women – Gungahlin United v NC Untouchables Navy – 7pm
All-conquering Gungahlin United will be aiming to finish the perfect season against NC Untouchables Navy as they head into their Futsal Premier League Grand Final undefeated all season.
Braces from Najwa Allen and Ashleigh Palombi saw Gungahlin run out 6-0 winners in their semi-final against Boomerangs Youth last week to continue an unchecked run into the Grand Final.
Confidence will be boosted by their season record over Untouchables, having run out 4-1 winners in Round 2 and 2-1 victors in Round 7, a record that Untouchables will need to put in the backs of their minds ahead of this clash.
Untouchables had a comparably narrow victory in their semi-final over Boomerangs, progressing 1-0 thanks to a 30th minute strike from Erika Pennyfield.
Both sides this season had strong defensive records, but where Gungahlin excelled was in their offensive efforts, outscoring second placed Untouchables by more than 30 goals through the regular season.
This is where Untouchables will need to reign in United, however that is easier said than done when the opposing strikeforce features both Ashleigh and Brittany Palombi.
The sister act have combined for more than 20 goals this season, a total greater than any other side as a whole, Untouchables included.
Untouchables may be wise to drop back against this fearsome attack, however need to make sure that they do some creating of their own.
Men – Canberra Olympic Superprawns v Belconnen United – 8pm
Canberra Olympic Superprawns will look to claim back-to-back Futsal Premier League titles when they take on Belconnen United in the FPL Grand Final on Wednesday.
The Superprawns advanced to the big dance following a barnstorming extra-time finish against Boomerangs Blue in last week’s semi-final. Heading into the additional period locked at 2-2, the Superprawns put on an added-time clinic with four goals in a short span to run away with the match and progress to the Grand Final.
Robbie Cattanach and Pat Ross-Magee, two of the league’s leading scorers, will both look to add to their tallies against a Belconnen side that they demolished 8-1 during the season. Ross-Magee scored four on that occasion and the Belconnen defence will need to be more wary of him than they seemingly were in that clash.
Belconnen progressed last week courtesy of a thrilling come from behind victory over NC Untouchables Red thanks to goals from Taylor Beaton, Jack Green and Dustin Wells.
Belconnen twice came back to level scores after going a goal down, before Dustin Wells scored with less than ten minutes to go to win it for Belconnen.
The mode of victory was a testament to Belconnen’s drive, meaning they are unlikely to be a pushover for the Superprawns this time out. The Blue Devils have not had the chance to test themselves against the competition frontrunners since the shellacking earlier in the season and will be very keen to make amends for the manner of that performance.
