Seven Capital Football representatives were recognised at the end of the National Futsal Championships 2024 at a glitzy awards ceremony held at Movie World on the Gold Coast. There were wins in the Coach of the Tournament, Player of the Tournament, Goalkeeper of the Tournament, and Team of the Tournament.
Fittingly, two of the awards went to the U15 Boys Champions as nothing could separate the performances of Andrija Rakic and Cadel Zwangobani who were named as the joint Players of the Tournament.
Boys U15 Head Coach Elie Darwich, who also played in the competition for the Open Men’s team, was rewarded for his team’s exceptional Championship winning week by collecting the U15 Boys Coach of the Tournament Award. Just recognition for the wonderful series of displays of free-flowing Futsal.
Equally deserving was Matt Cachia, Head Coach of the U15 Girls team who were exceptional for most of the competition, ultimately running out of steam towards the conclusion of the event, losing in the Semi-Finals, but impressing the awards committee with their style and quality of play.
Cachia’s U15 team was well represented by young goalkeeper Tiarna Ruberto who was awarded the Player of the Tournament, and Goalkeeper of the Tournament at that age group, as well as being named as the goalkeeper in the Junior Girls Team of the Tournament, a squad selected across all players from all age groups in the junior section. An incredible triple achievement.
Meanwhile, U17 Girls rising star, Reilly Yuen, was named as the outstanding player in that age grade as Player of the Tournament. Yuen found the back of the net three times amidst devastating all-action showings. Yuen was also named in the Senior Women’s Team of the Tournament.
Capital Football also had further representation in the Senior Women’s Team of the Tournament with two players making the team of five in the presence of Brittany Palombi alongside Yuen. Palombi scored in all five of the Cobras fixtures, ending the competition with six goals in total
