Majura FC pulled themselves off the bottom of the table and consigned Tuggeranong United to that ignominious position as the home side recoded a 5-2 win over the visitors at Ainslie Oval.
Margaux Sieb scored twice, including the game opening goal in two minutes, with Chelse Rolls doubling the lead just past the quarter of an hour mark. An own goal from Abrianna Albert reduced the arrears and Isla Alleway, nominally a goalkeeper, levelled for the visitors before the break.
Elianne Lum restored the Majura lead before goals from Sofia Bissell, and Sieb again, gave Majura a big win.
Canberra Olympic secured a vital 1-0 away win over Canberra Croatia at Deakin Stadium as they closed the gap on the team above them to four points in the process.
Olympic took the lead in the match a quarter of an hour in as some tidy approach work, and a superb forward run, allowed Sienna Ness the time and space to pick her spot past the advancing goalkeeper.
Croatia came in search of the equalising goal in the second forty-five minutes, but Olympic held firm and had chances of their own at the other end, ultimately managing a narrow, but important success.
Belconnen United cruised to a tenth league win of the season as they defeated West Canberra Wanderers 6-0 at Melrose Synthetic.
A sixth goal of the season from Leila Billington finally broke the deadlock, the midfielder following up to sweep home nine minutes before half-time, but it wasn’t until the second half that the Blue Devils swept into gear.
Eden Rodda struck twice in quick succession, later to complete a hat-trick, with Pascale La Hei adding to the tally. Billington ended what she had started by adding the sixth with fourteen minutes remaining.
In midweek, Gungahlin United moved into fourth place in the league table as they took the points in the proverbial ‘six-pointer’ against fellow top four hopefuls West Canberra Wanderers with a 2-0 win at Gungahlin Enclosed.
The damage was done inside the opening forty-five minutes for the hosts, as the Gunners scored twice in a dominant nine minute spell that was to ultimately secure the destination of the points.
Hannah Ferguson opened the scoring twenty minutes before the interval with her first goal of the season, a feat replicated by Sophie McGlynn who added the second, and clinching goal, in the 34th minute.
