Queanbeyan City stunned the league leaders Tigers FC with a sensational 4-1 away win at the Australian Institute of Sport.
City held firm against the league leading scorers and stunned Tigers on the break just before the half-hour as Daniel Obst received a pass at the top of the penalty area and hammered a low shot scross the grass and into the bottom corner.
It was to get even better for the bottom club five minutes before the break as they doubled their lead in some style, Alexander Evans getting in behind and smashing a finish into the net to establish a 2-0 half-time cushion.
Incredibly City, who’d only won once all season, increased the lead through goals from Samuel Palic and Michael Galic before Zachary Ilijoski pulled one back, but it was scant consolation for a well-beaten Tigers.
O’Connor Knights struck early to set the platform for a routine 3-0 victory over Yoogali SC at O’Connor Enclosed on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Title-chasing Knights took just nineteen seconds to break the deadlock against visiting Yoogali SC as Rocco Di Placido manufactured space inside the area to crack home a low finish.
Within eight minutes the hosts had a second. A long ball over the back of the Yoogali defence freed Jack Janke and the young forward raced clear to finish adeptly. The visitors, with goalkeeper Michael De Paoli up front, responded well, and held out until the break.
Knights added a third in the second-half, Janke nodding in from close-in after Damon Ippoliti had palmed a cross up into the air, as the Knights recorded a victory.
Monaro Panthers emerged victorious from a tense encounter against Gungahlin United at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval, winning 2-1 with all three goals scored in the first-half.
The game enjoyed an explosive start with two goals inside the opening four minutes. Panthers struck first. Ayham Nassr collecting a loose ball and advancing before placing a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
However, Gungahlin’s response was immediate. Straight from the kick off they surged forward and created space for Thomas Barbatano to rifle a finish across the goalkeeper and into the side-netting.
Panthers regained the initiative before half-time thanks to a well-struck goal from Jack Ellwood, before Gunners saw Jacob Kite pass up two presentable opportunities to bring his team back on terms.
Tuggeranong United dealt a blow to Canberra Croatia’s title-hopes as they cantered to a sublime 4-0 victory at the Australian Institute of Sport on a sunny Sunday afternoon,
It was Tuggeranong who got off to the perfect start as they struck the first goal of the contest after eight minutes. Inevitably, it was Timonthy Santos who scored it, turning home a loose ball inside the Croatia penalty area to register a goal against his former club.
And lightning was to strike twice for United and Santos doubled his, and Tuggeranong’s lead, just before half-time. Indecisive defending allowed Santos to steal in and race clear, before sliding a comfortable finish into the net for 2-0.
The home team sealed the points in the 67th minute with a fine third. Awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area, Sam Sheedy curled in a beautiful shot that arrowed into the top corner, before substitute Kris Raad iced the cake with the fourth.
