Canberra Juventus claimed the Capital Football U23 Grand Final with a 2-1 win over ANU FC at Stryda Park in Queanbeyan.
A late goal from midfielder James Stoddart, stabbing home from close range after wonderful approach work from winger Adam Exarhos sealed the win for Juventus against the League Champions.
ANU had the better chances in the opening half-hour of the match, Max Rawlinson sending a half-volley over the crossbar, and then heading wide of goal when well-placed following a cross from Nick Grandy.
Shortly afterwards the University side were unfortunate not to lead. Sachin Sirkari met a cross with a superb touch and volley on the turn, the ball cannoning back off the crossbar onto the back of Juventus goalkeeper Ari Roufogalis, onto the post and back into the ‘keeper’s hands.
Luck was on Juventus side again five minutes from the break. Defender Jasper Milin volleyed a free-kick onto the bar and James Raccosta reacted fastest to nod his header into the net to give his side the half-time advantage.
The University team were to level in the second-half, Rawlinson reacting fastest to a ball bouncing around the six-yard box, but Juventus had the ultimate word as Stoddart won the crown for his team.
