The Girls National Premier League survived the weather on the weekend to provide another exciting round of action. Here, Maddie Shrewsbury reviews the action.
NPL14
Belconnen United proved too strong for BellaMonaro in the NPL girls U14 competition as they recorded a 6-0 home win at Kaleen Enclosed as they closed in on the top two. Canberra Olympic managed to secure the win against West Canberra Wanderers with two goals each from Sephora Fiori and Alessia Calabro. The score included an unfortunate own goal from Eliza Whitten from Wanderers. The Gungahlin United girls just managed to edge a 1-0 win over Tuggeranong United out at Kambah fields with a very early goal scored by Charlee Schultz in just the fourth minute.

NPL15
An exciting match between Canberra Olympic and West Canberra Wanderers ended in a 2-2 scoreline after three yellow cards and one red card for Bailey Voormeulen in the 74th minute of a cracker in the NPL15 division. Wanderers started out in front and Olympic came back after two goals by Faria Pasha, until Maggie Probyn was able to make it a tie in the 77th minute. Belconnen united controlled their game winning 11-2 against BellaMonaro. A significant five goals were scored by Amy Sephora along with a hat-trick by Evie Youden, two from Zoe Cerne, and one from Abby Denmead. Croatia was glad to get the win against Majura FC, now having only a three-point gap between the teams on the ladder. Tensions were high down at Ainslie fields, but Croatia didn’t back down winning 3-0 against the home team. Tuggeranong United was glad to get another win over Gungahlin United with a 2-0 scoreline. They went in the lead very early with a fourth minute goal by Savannah Russell and secured it in the second half with another goal by Eleni Korres.

In a top versus bottom of the table game, Belconnen secured a big win over BellaMonaro, the home team winning 25-0. Ten different players scored for Belconnen, and they never gave their opponents a breather, scoring until the very last minutes. The only goals scored by BellaMonaro were two unfortunate own goals in the second half. Majura FC won 5-0 over Croatia, moving to third place on the ladder. West Canberra wanderers put in a fight to get one step closer to first place on the ladder. They secured a 2-0 win at O’Connor Enclosed against the home team Canberra Olympic. Laura Tarrant and Grace York put in their part to guarantee the win for their team. Over at Kambah, Gungahlin United won 6-0 over their challengers Tuggeranong United. Josie Montanari’s hat-trick sealed the deal narrowing down their gap between the next place on the ladder.
