Capital Football were notified by both Wagga City Wanderers and Griffith FC of their inability to field all teams in the NPLG and NPLB respectively in early February.
A requirement to participate in the NPL and CPL is that clubs must comply fully with the criteria set out in the Regulations. Schedule 2, Article 1.4 states: A Club granted a position in a League may be approved to continue in that League where it fully complies with the criteria set out in this Schedule.
Schedule 2, Article 6.1 of the 2023 NPL and CPL Competition Regulations also states: Clubs participating in the NPLG, NPLB and CPLB must be able to field and sustain a team in each age grade of the League at the commencement and throughout a Season.
Griffith FC
As Griffith FC are unable to field an Under 18s Boys’ team, the board have decided that Griffith FC will not participate in both the NPL Boys and CPL Boys 2023 competitions as they don’t satisfy the criteria to participate.
After consultation with both Wagga and Woden Valley, the board has invited Woden Valley who has accepted to be promoted into the NPL. Woden Valley after finishing 2nd in CPL was invited to be promoted under Special Circumstance Determinations in the Competition Regulations, in order to have an 8 team NPL being our strongest competition.
Whilst Griffith have not been permitted participation in the NPL Boys and CPL Boys competition, the board will review their team numbers for 2024 as an option to fill the vacant 8th CPL Boys spot if available.
Wagga City Wanderers
As Wagga City Wanderers are unable to field an Under 14s Girls team, the board have decided that Wagga City Wanderers will not participate in the NPL Girls 2023 competition as they don’t satisfy the criteria to participate.
Majura FC finished 1st in the 2022 Junior League Girls Club Championship, and as per promotion and relegation criteria, will be invited to participate in the 2023 NPL Girls Capital Football season.
A decision will be made on the current vacant 8th spot in the CPL Boys as soon as possible.
Season Draw
With this decision now made, Capital Football can finalise the changes to the draw and have the final 2023 NPL & CPL draws released this week. Capital Football would like to thank the community for its patience.
