Capital Football are delighted to announce that Canberra United will continue to play in the Ninja A-League for the 2025/26 season following an injection of funds from the ACT Government.
Funding has been allocated to the club from the ACT Government to go towards the considerable running costs of operating a team in the Ninja A-League and, having been backed by the Capital Football Board, the team will take its place in the competition for the forthcoming campaign.
“We are pleased that we will be able to take to the field as Canberra United once more for the 2025/26 Ninja A-League,” Capital Football CEO, Samantha Farrow, commented.
“The club are extremely appreciative of the continued financial support of the ACT Government and are now in the process of appointing the coaching staff and assembling a playing roster to participate in the league.
“We strongly reiterate that this will be the final season that Capital Football be running Canberra United FC.
“As stated previously, the growth of the team, the competition, and the associated financial commitments has become too large for a Member Federation to adequately manage to the professional standards that these players deserve.”
The club, who have been crowned Ninja A-League Champions twice, and Premiers three times, are a foundation member of the league and have played in every season since the commencement of the competition in 2008.
The next stage in the process for Canberra United is to confirm the coaching group and start recruiting players ahead of the new season. Details on these appointments, and the launch of a new membership campaign for the dedicated and loyal, Canberra United Supporters, will also be announced in due course.
“Canberra United is aware that there probably a lot of questions out there around the season ahead,” Farrow said. “However, be assured that work is continuing behind the scenes to provide this information to our fan base as soon as we are able.”
Capital Football and Canberra United thanks their supporters, sponsors, and partners, for their patience during this process.
