Capital Football is sharing this update to keep our football community informed about the potential consequences of decisions and public statements from Gungahlin United Football Club (GUFC).
Capital Football has no formal role in the governance or winding up of GUFC – those decisions rest entirely with the Club’s members at the Special General Meeting on 25 November 2025. Capital Football encourages all GUFC members to attend the meeting and take part in the decision-making process. The future of the Club rests with its members, and participation is the best way to ensure all voices are heard.
For clarity, there are currently no deals or agreements in place between Capital Football and any club in relation to the Gungahlin region.
The Capital Football Board has endorsed an Expression of Interest (EOI) process, which will be released shortly. This process is being implemented to ensure that the 1,700 community players and families affiliated with GUFC continue to have access to football opportunities, should the Club cease operations. This step is purely precautionary and does not favour or pre-empt any outcome of the upcoming SGM. However, it is necessary to have this process in place before GUFC’s SGM to allow as much time as possible for other clubs to step in and provide support for players, should this be required.
Whilst we appreciate the uncertainty for GUFC members as a result of this unprecedented situation, Capital Football’s initial response was to ensure the GUFC NPL players had opportunities to find a new club with the NPL trial period having already commenced.
Capital Football remains committed to acting in the best interests of our entire football community.
Further updates will be shared as decisions are finalised to ensure transparency, stability, and confidence in the process.
No further comment will be made at this time.
