Women’s Futsal Premier League
Round 1
Gungahlin United, who claimed the 2015 Women’s Futsal Premier League crown, started the defence of their title in exhilarating fashion, hammering Boomerangs FS Youth 11-0 in the season opener at the AIS Training Hall with Brittany Palombi plundering four goals.
The Gunners, after a sluggish opening, netted three in quick-fire succession and led 4-0 at the interval as the Boomerangs FS Youth team struggled to contain the impressive firepower within the Gungahlin squad. Brittany Palombi (2), Ashleigh Palombi and Grace Field all scored in the opening half as Gunners took control.
Najwa Allen added to the tally early in the second half and, after Field had made it 6-0, it was all one-way traffic. Brittany Palombi added a brace to take her tally to four with Becky Roche (2) and Michelle Aurousseau completing an outstanding first evening’s work.
In the other match played on opening night a goal from Erika Pennyfield proved the difference as NC Untouchables Navy defeated Boomerangs FS 1-0. An even match could have gone either way but Pennyfield’s goal was the settler and, despite Boomerangs playing fifth player to force a draw, they came up just short.
