Marko Vrkic came to Australia in 1985 and has been an integral part of Canberra FC ever since. He is well known and respected within the club and also among the local football community, where his love and passion for the game is well known. After a playing career that saw him win three league titles, two grand finals and a pair of Federation Cups with his beloved Deakin, he retired from playing and took over the coaching reigns at the club before being installed as President, a role he held until…… Making him the longest serving president at the club. Under his stewardship, the club has won a raft of prizes, becoming one of the greatest teams that Canberra has seen. Marko’s impact can be felt in the very foundation of the club as he was instrumental in the rebuilding of Deakin Stadium in 2004. Marko is understandably very proud of the venue and its choice as a training base for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup was just reward for his efforts. Marko’s commitments to that tournament and ensuring the stadium was at its best every day was commendable. A true football person through and through and certainly one of a kind.
