As you would already be aware, ACT Sport and Recreation have closed all turf grounds for this weekend. Canberra has had over 70mm of rain so far this week, with more to come. As you can appreciate, turf grounds make up most fields used over the course of a weekend.
Our finals series for juniors and community commence in approximately three weeks’ time, with NPL and CPL in four to five weeks. Given the number of games that occur over the span of a weekend, the decision to close fields has a significant impact of the remainder of the season, which we are acutely aware of.
At this point in time, looking at all NPL, CPL, State League, Community, and Junior League fixtures for this weekend, there would be nearly 70 matches to reschedule in the next two to four weeks. This is all whilst having access to a limited number of fields with appropriate match lighting and further risks of weather events.
Due to the inability to reschedule the number of matches above with the amount of time left in the season, we’ve made the difficult decision to apply washouts to all competitions except NPL and CPL. All washouts will be put into Dribl as Washout Cancelled, meaning these games will not be replayed. For matches that will be replayed that aren’t able to be fixtured this weekend these matches will be postponed in Dribl this evening.
We understand and appreciate this is late notice. I would like to note that the team have spent all day trying to find solutions, but after long and careful deliberation, we came to the conclusion above.
We hope you can appreciate the difficulty the weather has placed on our competitions and look for your cooperation in accepting this news.
