Missed the Men’s National Premier League Round 9? Here’s your wrap-up!
IN A NUTSHELL
O’Connor Knights 26-mathc unbeaten run was ended by Monaro Panthers at O’Connor Enclosed, a penalty separated Croatia and Gungahlin at the AIS, Tuggeranong and Tigers shared the honours at the AIS, where a 16-year-old Steve Nealon scored on debut, whereas Olympic triumphed in the relegation battle by the odd-goal in a seven-goal thriller over in Griffith.
GOAL OF THE WEEK
A superb goal from midfield maestro Joshua De Rossi of Yoogali SC claims the Gola of the Week. De Rossi controlled on the edge of the box and unleashed a dipping bullet that crashed into the net at Solar Mad Stadium in Griffith, handing the hoists some hope in their battle with Canberra Olympic.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
Monaro Panthers main man, Roko Strika, was at it again as he helped the Panthers to end the Knights unbeaten run with a three-goal burst in a quarter-of-an-hour. Strika nodded in the first from a sublime Christian Kreskas free-kick, and then pounced on a loose touch from Knights Daniel Roberts to scoot away and slot home the second. Effective around the park, deadly in front of goal.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
COMING SOON
A week off for most as apparently there’s some sort of trophy up for grabs over at Deakin and a spot on the telly in the Round of 32, potentially against some pros. When we get back to NPL action, finalists the Panthers host the Gunners at Riverside in the evening kick-off on Saturday, following on from Olympic versus Tigers at O’Connor. On Sunday, the Knights, the other finalists in case you didn’t know, travel to Griffith to meet Yoogali, while Croatia welcome Tuggeranong to Deakin.
