Canberra Olympic continued their chase for the top of the table as they claimed a sixth win from eight with a convincing 4-0 victory over Majura FC at O’Connor Enclosed on a bright Saturday afternoon.
The home team took quite some time to shake off the challenge of the visitors, scoring three times in the final nineteen minutes to secure the win after Alexia Cerne had given them the lead in only the tenth minute of play.
Abbey Hurman added that critical second goal in the 71st minute, before a Brittany Fiorese spot-kick confirmed the win with eleven minutes left on the clock. A fourth Olympic goal, netted by Rhiannon Davis less than sixty seconds later, was the icing on the cake for the home team.
Belconnen United continued their impressive form at the top end of the table as they travelled to Gungahlin Enclosed and came away with a 4-0 win over their hosts Gungahlin United.
An eleventh goal of the season from Scarlett Wells put the Blue Devils on their way in just the eighth minute of the contest, and when Grace Hanley unfortunately put through her own goal, Belconnen were well on the way to the points.
Madison Sawkins made it 3-0 on the half-hour mark to seal the result, with the visitors adding one more after the break as Siena D’Ambrosio completed the victory with her third goal of the NPLW reserves season.
Canberra Croatia moved into second place in the table as they came away from their visit to Melrose Synthetic with a 5-1 success over West Caberra Wanderers.
Emily Hazilias gave Croatia the perfect start in the second minute, and by the time that 24 minutes had elapsed the visitors had added two more to the tally as Elizabeth Bartone and Pia McGhie struck.
Sonya Tomanovits pulled one back for the Wanderers two minutes later, but Rhiannon Fenson scored her fifth of this season just before the half-time whistle to reestablish the three-goal lead. Hazilias completed the scoring eight minutes from time.
