Belconnen United will once again meet Canberra Olympic in the National Premier League Women’s Grand Final this Saturday, as the two shades of blue meet in a tantalising contest at McKellar Park.
This pairing have made up the last three Grand Finals in the capital, with Olympic winning the last three, a 3-0 win in 2022, 4-3 winners in 2023, and more recently 2-0 victors last season at Deakin Stadium.
Given this, Olympic will be full of confidence heading into this weekend’s meeting, particularly after a 3-2 victory over Canberra Croatia in last week’s Preliminary Final, and a strong end to their 2025 campaign, after a difficult start.
Despite their place in the final, this season hasn’t hit the heights achieved by Frank Cachia’s side in 2024 after a treble-winning season saw them as the undisputed best club in the league.
Their opponents could go one better with a win at McKellar however, after already claiming three pieces of silverware in 2025, with Charity Shield, Federation Cup and League title trophies already under their belts after an utterly dominant campaign, still without defeat or stalemate.
Despite their first capture of the league title in six years, the focus would have always been on this match, especially after so many years of disappointment at the final hurdle.
If any team in the last few campaigns can do it however, this Belconnen side can, after a season which saw Scott Conlon’s team score 120 goals in 21 games, and brush their top four opponents aside across most encounters, including crucially, five wins from five matches against Olympic this season.
