The Football Family in Canberra lost an outstanding member last week, when George Dobbin passed away on Sunday 4 November.
George will be remembered as a no-nonsense referee and as a down to earth referees’ coach during three decades in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.
Paul Murphy who was the President of the ACT Referees’ body for some of the time during this era, paid tribute to Dobbin.
“He was my confidant and in many ways my mentor,” Murphy said.
George was recognised for his services to football in Canberra when he was given Life Membership of Capital Football.
The football community send their condolences and thoughts to George’s wife Alice and their sons Andrew and Gordon.
