A clinical Northern NSW Football saw off Capital Football in the Men’s All-Stars Challenge at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Saturday 10 October.
A goal in either half proved to be too much for Ali Efe and Mitch Steven’s outfit, who can hold their heads high after a quality performance in searingly hot conditions up north.
Spencer Barber could’ve gotten Capital Football off to the perfect start, lashing an effort just wide of the top corner from the edge of the box, after three minutes in Newcastle.
Lara Delgado was denied just moments later, however the NNSWF would not be denied twice, opening the scoring on 15 minutes with a close-range finish that Willem Lejeune couldn’t quite keep out of the net.
NNSWF continued to ask questions of the Capital Football defence, and could’ve had a second five minutes after taking the lead as Jakob Cresnar found the far post.
With one goal the difference between the sides at the break, the hosts soon doubled their advantage early in the second period, after an Elijah Howe pass was mis-controlled by Jack Green, allowing Max Wettig in behind to finish coolly.
Capital Football had several half chances as time ticked closer to the 90, however were unable to construct any meaningful efforts on goal, despite the likes of Barber, Nicholas Subasic and Micheal Adams looking to create.
