The 2026 Mitre National Futsal Championships kicked off at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre today as over 100 teams from across the country gathered for the opening day of competition.
The teams from the ACT had an incredible opening day with four wins from five, and the highest win percentage of all competing member federations with 80%.
The Under 12 Boys led the way with two big wins, 8-1 against Northern NSW Red and a 9-0 drubbing of Football SA Blue. The team currently sits second in Pool A behind Football Queensland White on goal difference.
Returning to the tournament after an undefeated campaign in 2025, the Open Women’s side kicked off their title defence with a new-look side taking on Football NSW Thunder. Despite some incredible play, the team fell to a narrow defeat against NSW 2-1.
Up next were the Under 13 Boys, who opened their tournament against a highly fancied Football NSW Metro. The team showed no fear as they comfortably dispatched the NSW side to win 7-1 and sit atop Pool B headed into Round 2.
Wrapping up the day were the Under 15 Boys. Coming up against Football NSW Country in the last game of the day. It was a back and forth encounter, with the Capital Football team prevailing 4-3.
