Capital Football’s U15 Boys romped to the National Futsal Championship title with an exhilarating 5-2 exhibition against NSW Metro on the Gold Coast. A dominant team display wrapped up a sensational week for a talented group of which we are likely to be hearing much more.
A superb first-half for Capital Football saw them take a stranglehold on the fixture with three goals in the first twenty minutes seeing the boys 3-1 ahead at the break. Indeed, it only took six minutes for them to hit the front, Jasper Noyen sending a ball across the face of goal that was swept in at the far post by the onrushing Cadel Zwangobani.
Anthony Rakic was next to test the NSW Metro goalkeeper, robbing a defender and forcing a decent block from close in, whilst at the other end of the court Steve Maglasis came out feet first to make an excellent save to preserve the lead.
And that proved to be vital as Capital Football extended their lead in the twelfth minute with a goal of brutal simplicity. A corner was cut back to Xavier Cussen who thundered a low shot through a crowd of players that crashed into the bottom corner of the goal. Metro responded in kind from a corner of their own five minutes later, but Capital Football restored the two-goal lead before the break.
Nikola Celebija blasted a shot at goal from another corner routine that was well saved, but unfortunately for NSW Metro, the rebound cannoned off their own defender and rolled apologetically into the back of the net.
Metro threatened a brief second-half revival when a sweet move saw them reduce the deficit, but far from being concerned, Capital Football when straight up the other end and Noyen clipped home a fine finish at the near post.
Maglasis then saved wonderfully to preserve the lead, and the boys from the ACT were able to seal the victory with a fifth goal seven minutes from time. It was a strike that epitomised their tournament, a competition that has seen them score a mammoth 56 goals in eight games. Andrija Rakic was initially denied, but Michael Pratezina followed up to score.
