Men’s Futsal Premier League
Round 8
Woden-Weston Timberwolves produced the shock of the round as they saw off the challenge of Belconnen United in a seven-goal thriller at the AIS Training Hall. The loss was the Blue Devils third in succession and has seen them drop to third on the table as the Timberwolves claimed their second win of the campaign.
Dustin Wells had given Belconnen the lead in the 12th minute of a hard fought match but goals in quick succession to Steven Zardo and Ashley Blount put the Timberwolves in front by the interval. Wells equalised at the start of the second half only for Misko Naumoski to score twice and put Timberwolves into a 4-2 lead. Sean O’Neill reduced the gap to one with seconds remaining but time ran out on the Blue Devils.
Boomerangs FS Blue lost the leadership of the Men’s Futsal Premier League on goal difference as they were beaten 5-2 by NC Untouchables Red. Nathaniel De Hoog put the Untouchables into an 11th minute lead but Lachlan Riddell responded for Boomerangs Blue four minutes later. A quick-fire reply from Ryan Tredinnick however had Untouchables in the lead at the break.
Michael Knee put Untouchables 3-1 ahead in the 23rd minute only for Brad Sawyer to reduce the deficit to one, four minutes later. NC Untouchables Red finished strongly and a second from De Hoog, added to by a late goal from Matthew Corey ensured a win and fourth place on the table.
Canberra Olympic Superprawns reclaimed the top spot after a 7-5 win over Boomerangs FS Youth. Robbie Cattanach (2), Daniel Fulton (2), Ryan Keir (2) and Goran Josifovski all scored for the table-toppers with Benjamin Basser-Silk (2), Nicholas Dahl, Jayde James-Ward and John O’Gorman scoring for the beaten, but far from out-classed, Boomerangs FS Youth squad.
Meanwhile, two goals from Jay Kelly, one in either half, led Boomerangs FS White to a 2-1 win over NC Untouchables Navy. Kelly’s double had Boomerangs FS White in control but, barely sixty seconds after his second goal Jason Farrell brought the NC Untouchables Navy back into the match setting up a fraught finale for the Boomerangs, who held on.
