Men’s Futsal Premier League Catchup-Round (6)
The recent catch-up round in the Capital Football Mens Futsal Premier League saw a glut of goals as a number of big results headlined the matches. Multiple players recorded braces or hat-tricks with Pat Ross-Magee of the Superprawns grabbing the limelight with an incredible four goal haul in his side’s demolition of Belconnen United.
An Untouchables derby kicked off the round as the Navy and Red sides did battle, and a 13-minute brace from Aidan Brown saw Untouchables Navy take a two goal lead into half time. Navy came out firing after the break as Jason Farrell notched his first goal of the game, but Untouchables Red found a glimmer of hope as Ryan Tredinnick hit back on the half-hour mark. However it was not to be as Farrell scored two in two minutes to complete his hat trick before Jonathan Toole completed the rout in the final minutes of the match.
Michael Reeve looked to have given Boomerangs White the perfect start against the Timberwolves as he opened the scoring in the third minute, but goals to Sam Carters, Adrian Stroh and Grant Davoren in quick succession saw the away side head into the break with a 3-1 advantage. Jay Kelly scored within minutes of the restart to bring Boomerangs right back into the match, but a goal from Julian Borgna four minutes later restored the Timberwolves buffer before Ashley Blount sealed the match in the final minutes with another strike.
Two goals in the first four minutes for the Canberra Olympic Superprawns proved the catalyst for an 8-1 thrashing of Belconnen United. Daniel Fulton and Ryan Keir both scored in the 4th minute to set the tone, as Pat Ross-Magee added his first goal just before the half-time break. Up three-nil at the half, the Superprawns took no rest as they put home five second half goals, including an eight-minute hat-trick for Ross-Magee who finished with four. Belconnen United struggled to keep pace with a markedly better side, however Taylor Beaton got on the board with a consolation goal in the 37th minute as the Superprawns ran out convincing victors.
The final match of the round saw a Boomerangs Derby as the Blue side took on Boomerangs Youth. Michael Rinaudo got Boomerangs Blue underway after just eight minutes before Brad Sawyer doubled Blue’s advantage just three minutes before the half-time break. Youth kept themselves in the contest as they held out their senior opponents early in the second half, but it did not last as Rinaudo claimed his second goal in the 33rd minute before Nicholas Rathjen sealed proceedings with three minutes left in the match.
