Men’s Futsal Premier League
Round 2
Belconnen United and Canberra Olympic Superprawns remain the only teams with 100% records after two rounds of the Men’s Futsal Premier League competition after both racked up a second win of the season on Wednesday evening at the AIS Training Hall.
The Blue Devils came out on top against NC Untouchables Navy winning by the odd-goal in five, led by Taylor Beaton who scored twice for the title-chasers. After a tight opening Belconnen went in front in the 13th minute as Beaton struck but the NC Untouchables Navy drew level before the break as Michael Sydney levelled. Blue Devils restored their lead in the second stanza but Untouchables would not give in and came close to snatching a draw late on.
For the second successive match Canberra Olympic Superprawns netted five goals but, unlike their Round 1 encounter, this time they were made to work for the win with Boomerangs FS Blue narrowly going down 3-5. Brad Sawyer scored twice in the first half, either side of a goal from Stephen Domenici as Boomerangs FS Blue led 2-1. But a goal from Superprawns made it all-square at the interval.
Domenici added his second after the break to put the champions in front and further goals put the Olympic side 5-2 ahead and in cruise control. Michael Rinaudo made sure that the Superprawns were kept honest with late Boomerangs third, but the Superprawns had done enough to win.
NC Untouchables Red gained a first win of the season as they downed Woden-Weston Timberwolves 3-0 in a competent and solid display. The Untouchables side led 1-0 at the interval after Nathaniel De Hoog scored whilst a second, struck by Matthew Corey in the second half, left Timberwolves with a lot to do. As they pushed for a goal they were caught on the break and an unfortunate own goal ended proceedings.
Boomerangs FS Youth meanwhile racked up a wonderful 6-1 win over their stablemates from Boomerangs FS White. After an even first half goals from Nicholas Dahl and Jayde James-Ward had the Youth in the ascendency but a goal from Brett Forward close to half-time kept Boomerangs White in the contest. Dahl added his second in the second half after the keeper lost his footing, before goals from Grant Barlow and Massimo Piccirillo blew the score out. Elie Darwich brought up the half-dozen close to the final whistle.
