For the first time ever, two Capital Football AWD teams clashed at the FFA National Futsal Championships, as Gold took on Royal at AIS Training Halls on Tuesday afternoon.
Carl Valeri’s cousin Christian Valeri scored in the second and ninth minute to give his side an early lead before Capital Football Gold got one back with a spectacular effort from Luc Launder.
Chipping the ball over his shoulder, Launder half-volleyed the ball past a helpless Cameron Gudgeon to get Gold back in the game.
But Royal restored their two-goal lead just a minute later when Andrew Hoatson nutmegged Greg Hibberd. Former Pararoo Jason Driscoll controlled the match from the back of the court to ensure see his side walked away with all three points.
After the break, three quick goals Adrian Araya, Patrick Heath Jeffery and Mark Olivieri extended the Royals lead. In an even second half, both sides canceled each other out with strong defences before a late flurry of goals ensured the result.
Royal scored three late goals as Valeri rounded out his hattrick, Hoatson secured his double and Leapheng Nuth scored his first.
In the end, it was Royals who trumped Gold, running out 9-1 winners.
