FPL Round 9 Review
While there may have only been two games, there was still plenty of action at ANU Sports Centre as Round Nine of the Men’s Futsal Premier League took place last night.
North Canberra Untouchables 2 def. Boomerangs FS 1
The North Canberra Untouchables have strengthened their top four claims with a tight one-goal win over second placed Boomerangs FS.
It was a tight first half as both sides created chances, but neither could capitalise or take full control of the clash.
The encounter came to life in the second half with three goals scored and three yellow cards being dished out. Untouchables found themselves in front early as Brandon Hawker found the back of the net.
Bailey Sorenson would level the scores minutes later, scoring off a rebounded penalty attempt.
But it would be Untouchables that had the last laugh as Brant Taylor tapped in at the back post, snatching a late win.
Canberra Olympic 5 def. by Timberwolves FC 6
The second and final game of the night was an 11-goal thriller, with seven coming in the first half alone.
After Olympic opened the scoring early through Tupaia Ringi, the game blew wide open as both sides traded blows. After a chaotic finish to the first half, Timberwolves found themselves with a 4-3 lead.
Timberwolves took control in the second half, as they raced out to a three-goal lead. Not backing down without a fight, Olympic fought hard to score two late goals through Simon Rohan-Jones and Cale Brown, but it would not be enough as Timberwolves held on for a thrilling win.
