Female Football week is nearly upon us, and there a number of events hosted by Capital Football taking place.
As well as CF run events, a number of clubs will be running their own events throughout the eight day celebration of Women in football.
The Female-only Refereeing course is the first of it’s kind to be run by Capital Football.
With the season approaching there is no better time to get into refereeing, and earn yourself some extra money on weekends.
Capital Football referee Delfina Dimoski said that the female-only course is a great chance to promote females in one of the sport’s toughest gigs.
“The promotion, recruitment and celebration of female presence in football especially refereeing is extremely important,” Dimoski said.
“Female officials represent a minority in the refereeing population. Here in the ACT presently there are 8 women refereeing in NPL and WPL competitions week in week out.
Opportunities to promote women participating at all levels of officiating from grassroots to elite level should be grasped with both hands. Female match officials are leaders and role models for fellow female football participants and should be celebrated as equally as our playing counterparts.”
The first fifteen applicants to register for the course will recieve free entry, so get in quick before spots are all taken!
This event is part of FFA’s Female Football Week, and an initiative to highlight the importance of women in leadership roles and in sport. Our Forum will be held as a Q&A session for attendees to ask questions and learn how our speakers navigated to their current roles. Speakers will include female A-League referee Allyson Flynn, Westfield Matildas’ striker Michelle Heyman and a female CEO and a professional sports analyst.
This event is an amazing opportunity for females and males of all ages to learn from strong women, and become empowered to take on leadership roles.
The girls-only Miniroos session will be hosted by Canberra United players and will comprise a 90 minute skills session at Hawker Football Centre.
This clinic represents the perfect chance for young female footballers to learn from the best in a comfortable environment.
With only 50 places available and filling up first, now is the time to sign up and secure a spot!
A number of clubs will also host events throughout the week long celebration.
