The top four has been set in the Women’s Capital Futsal League meaning that the final round of matches, Round 10, will see players playing for provide and, potentially, looking to get into even better form ahead of the semi-final match-ups set for next weekend.
There is interest at the foot of the table as Queanbeyan-Palerang Power meet ANU Apex on Friday evening with both teams heading into the match hoping for the three points. The Power are yet to win in the competition whilst the Apex have the victory against the Power a fortnight ago on their record.
Both teams have shown during the season that they have enough quality in their ranks to provide a quality game with the Apex heading in as favourites thanks to their success in the previous encounter. Roxie Swart netted five in that game for Apex and will be keen for more.
The Power complete their season in the early afternoon Saturday clash with North Canberra Fire, a game in which the in-form Fire will be aiming to try and reduce the goal difference to second placed UC Stars and put themselves in with a chance of finishing the season in second place.
Fire have only been beaten twice this term and have won their last three since being beaten by West Canberra Lightning, suggesting they are finding form at the right time, and they will round off their campaign on Sunday with a fixture against South Canberra Swift.
A second game in two days might be taxing for the Fire, but they have a large and varied squad and have the means to cope with the congestion. The swift meanwhile are in finals preparation mode in the knowledge that they will take on table-topping Lightning in the last four.
The League Champions finish their regular season campaign with a match against UC Stars, the top two meeting on Saturday evening. The early season encounter was a cracker, the Lightning coming out on top an maintaining their unbeaten run, and there is little reason to suggest this will be any different.
