ANU booked themselves a spot in the Grand Final and a rematch with O’Connor Knights after a come from behind-win in an eight-goal thriller with Weston-Molonglo at Hawker.
Weston Molonglo, got off to the perfect start as they opened the scoring inside the first minute of the game, with Adam Johnston catching the ANU defence asleep and slotting home after 50 seconds.
The ANU didn’t take long to respond though, as Max Mottl broke down the line before cutting back neatly to Joshua Jordan at the back post who finished easily.
However just as it looked like scores would be level at the break, Tom Pagett managed to scramble an effort on goal from inside the box and beat Adam Robens in the ANU goal to give Weston-Molonglo a valuable half-time lead.
ANU failed to learn from their slow start, and were punished by Adam Johnston once again inside the first minute of the second half.
The ANU claimed one back from the spot on 72 minutes, and they sent the game into extra time with a late leveller through Nicholas Hope.
Extra time saw some tired legs for both sides, but the ANU ultimately got the job done, scoring goals in the 98th and 107th minute to book their place in the Capital League Grand Final against the O’Connor Knights at Woden Park Enclosed on Sunday.
