Capital Football will make Cerebral Palsy Nationals history this September when they travel to participate in the CP National Championships at Runaway Bay.
The Capital Football team will be a female only squad, playing against mostly male opposition, the first time in the history of the tournament that this has occurred.
The team, led by ParaMatildas Head Coach, Kelly Stirton, are excited by the upcoming competition and are ready to meet the challenges that being the only all-female team will present.
“I am certainly excited by the challenge that this presents and am looking forward to taking out team up to Runaway Bay to compete in the 2022 CP Nationals,” Head Coach Stirton commented.
“This is an amazing opportunity for the team to experience tournament football and to mingle with their peers from interstate. This is vital for their football development and a wonderful social occasion to boot.
“I would like to thank Capital Football for supporting our entry. I am certainly proud to be part of a member federation who supports these initiatives.”
The tournament has been held since 2004 and serves as a talent identifier and pathway for the Australian National CP Football Team, the Pararoos and the newly formed ParaMatildas who recently reached the World Cup Final.
“The tournament will definitely showcase some wonderfully talented footballers,” Stirton said of the event.
“I will certainly be keeping my eyes open for the next generation of talent for the ParaMatildas and the Pararoos coaching staff will no doubt be thinking exactly the same.”
The CP Nationals will take place in Runaway Bay, QLD between 23-26 September 2022.
