Capital Football’s strong football community is led by our incredible volunteers. Every club in the region who plays our wonderful sport has an army of volunteers who sacrifice their time each and every weekend of the season, and much of it during the week as well.
In this, National Volunteer Week, we shine the light on five members of our football community who are the epitome of a sporting club volunteer.
Sharon Brennan (Gungahlin United): Sharon has been helpful and getting work done on time and not leaving tasks to the final minute to avoid conflicts or confusion. She is an initiative-taking volunteer and coordinates with Capital Football from Premier Leagues to MiniRoos.
Tina McLeary (Brindabella Blues): Tina has been volunteering with Brindabella Blues for many years now and is dedicated and enthusiastic about football. She has been coordinating with Capital Football from Premier Leagues to MiniRoos using her vast and extensive knowledge of the game to significant effect.
Nicole Mitchell (Tuggeranong United): Nicole has been an integral part of growing the MiniRoos at Tuggeranong United FC with her drive and dedication helping to increase participation. She also helps manage the highly-rated Tuggeranong United canteen on Matchdays.
Benjamin Muir (Belnorth): Ben is friendly and loves to chat anything football related. He has been providing good insights and ideas to improve football activities such as increasing participation etc. in the ACT region. Ben is always accommodating and has a helping nature on and off the field. Parents and children are always having a wonderful time with Ben around. Besides match days, he has helped Capital Football in finalising draws and allocation of fixtures.
Shiree Yap (Woden Valley): Shiree is super cooperative and communicates very well at club level. She has been accommodating other clubs that have difficulties scheduling home matches and preferences for their home games. She has been coordinating with referees, volunteers, parents, players, and others to run match-day activities, and all of them are extremely critical to ensure match days are successful.
As a thank you to these five amazing people, Capital Football will be recognising their work with a small token of appreciation at the Australia Cup Finals day on Saturday 3 June 2023.
On the theme of volunteering, The Sport Volunteer Coalition has developed a four-year Action Plan, to enable more Australians to volunteer in sport and enhance the sport volunteering experience.
The ASC leads the implementation of the Action Plan, with the Sport Volunteer Coalition members supporting the delivery across four strategic themes – Celebrate, Empower, Reimagine, and Innovate.
