Canberra’s own Tehya Aspland has been called up to the Junior Matildas squad at the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup later this year in Morocco.
Aspland is not a stranger to national selection, having been called up to various camps over the past year.
She has also appeared for Australia at the 2025 ASEAN U-16 Girl’s Championships, before contributing to her country’s World Cup qualification at the 2026 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup in May.
Aspland has been a key contributor at First Grade level locally for Canberra Olympic for three seasons, and off the back of a fantastic 2026 campaign, she was rewarded with a nomination to the Team of the Season.
If that accolade wasn’t enough, the midfielder recently secured a contract with Canberra United for the 2026/27 A-League Women’s campaign. She will also fly the flag for locally produced talents gearing up for the professional stage.
CommBank Junior Matildas Head Coach, Michael Cooper, recently spoke about the squad selection.
“To qualify for Australia’s first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup was a significant achievement, but now the players have earned the opportunity to take that next step and compete on the world stage”, he said.
“There has been a lot of hard work from this group over the past year, and we have seen the players continue to grow, both individually and as a team. We know that a World Cup presents a different level of challenge and that each of our opponents will provide a unique test.
“For the players, this is an opportunity to compete against some of the best young players in the world, learn from the experience and represent Australia with pride. We want them to embrace the challenge and make the most of what is a very special opportunity.”
