League Champions Canberra Croatia will clash with Grand Final Winners Monaro Panthers in an eye-catching Australia Cup Round 5, Federation Cup Quarter Final, tie after the draw was completed at Football House on Thursday afternoon.
Croatia, who dumped Tigers FC out of the competition with a 3-1 win in Round 4, will lock horns with the team who they defeated 4-1 in the Charity Shield earlier this month in what is a huge encounter for both teams.
The winners of the title, likely to take place at Deakin Stadium, will face the winners of the clash between ANU FC and Gungahlin United, the pair drawn out in the second of the four Quarter Final match-ups.
ANU FC, from the Capital Premier League defeated Yoogali SC 4-0 in their previous round match and will meet a Gungahlin side fresh off a 2-1 triumph over O’Connor Knights in a hard-fought Round 4 fixture.
The university side have previously made the semi-finals of the competition, where they were defeated by Canberra Croatia.
There’s an all non-NPL match when the battle to be ‘Kings of the North’ takes place as State League side Belnorth FC, the lowest ranked team left in the competition, meet Belconnen United following the draw.
Belnorth swept past Woden Valley and Weston Molonglo FC to reach this stage whilst the Blue Devils have seen off Queanbeyan City and Brindabella Blues.
The draw is completed by the first game that came out of the draw bowl, the all-NPL clash between Canberra Olympic and last year’s beaten finalists West Canberra Wanderers, the latter whom were one kick from making the Australia Cup Round of 32.
Olympic have a great record in the Qualifying competition and will be eying off the Final, but the Wanderers have already shown how much of a cup side they can be. The winners will meet the successful club from the Belnorth FC and Belconnen United match in the semi-finals.
