Gungahlin Pink picked up a dominant win in Week 2 as they saw off Boomerangs easily at the AIS. Early goals from Michelle Aurosseau and Brittany Palombi had Gungahlin up 2-0 at the break, before a qucik-fire brace from Ash Palombi doubled the advantage. The rout continued in the final ten minutes as an own goal and a strike from Ilahna Aitchison pushed the advantage out to six goals at the final whistle.
CUA 17’s White 4 (Isabell Mulhall 3′, Jaide Trewin 6′, 35′, Tianah Miro 10′) CUA 17’s Green 6 (Alexia Forner 30′, 38′, Sharon Chao 15′, Nina Lindenmayer, Demi Nikias, Hayley Taylor-Young)
CUA Green took the bragging rights in a Round 2 CUA derby, but it took hard work as CUA White flew out of the blocks. Isabel Mulhall and Jaide Trewin scored in the first six minutes, and Tianah Miro scored after 10 to jump out to a 3-0 lead. But a blistering 10 minute period from CUA Green saw them tie the match at the break thanks to goals from Sharon Chao, Demi Nikias and Nina Lindenmayer. An even start to the second half saw the teams tied with 10 minutes left, but quick goals from Alexia Forner and Hayley Taylor-Young put Green up by two. Jaide Trewin halved the deficit with five minutes late however Forner restored the buffer with two minutes left to seal the outcome.
NCU Untouchables Red 2 (Sarah Crittenden 17′, 23′) drew. NCU Untouchables Navy (Erika Pennyfield 12′, Alice Churchill 28′)
Spoils were shared in the Round 2 Untouchables Derby as Red and Navy finished in a 2-2 draw. Erika Pennyfield put Navy ahead after 11 minutes only to see her goal cancelled out by Sarah Crittenden five minutes later. The teams were a goal apiece at the break, and Crittenden broke the deadlock three minutes into the second stanza. This time Navy were able to come from behind though, and Alice Churchil’s effort 12 minutes from time was enough to seal a draw.
Gungahlin United Yellow 0 def. by Belconnen United Blue Devils 6 (Michaela Day 11′, Sian Minary-Bland 12′, 15′, 32′, Olivia Gurney 13′, Rachael Corbett 17′)
A five-goal first half blitz helped Belconnen United to a big 6-0 win over Gungahlin United in Round 2 of the Women’s FPL. Michaela Day got the ball rolling as she finished a good team move on 12 minutes, before a brace from Sian Minary-Bland and singles from Olivia Gurney and Rachael Corbett blew the score out to 5-0 at the break. Strong goal keeping from both sides kept the rate down in the second half, but Minary-Bland still found time to finish her hat-trick as she scored with eight minutes to play.
