South Canberra Football Club (SCFC) was established in 2021 with a clear vision: to provide women and female-identifying players with a safe, inclusive environment to play football at any level. Our club is built on the values of inclusion and respect. For us, these are more than words – they are guiding principles that shape our actions and ensure every person feels welcome, valued and able to be their authentic self.
This commitment has recently been recognised, with SCFC named Club Changer of the Month for April—an acknowledgement of the positive impact the club is making through leadership, inclusion and community connection.
Our leadership team reflects this commitment, bringing together a diverse group of LGBTIQ+ individuals, First Nations people, veterans and proud Canberra locals. This diversity strengthens our decision-making and helps ensure the club remains connected to, and representative of, the community we serve.
SCFC is a 100 per cent volunteer-run, not-for-profit club with an all-female committee and 13 of our 14 coaches identifying as female. We are passionate about creating leadership opportunities for women and female-identifying people and ensuring they have a genuine voice at the decision-making table in what has traditionally been a male-dominated sporting environment. We actively support this through coaching and referee development pathways that build confidence, visibility and leadership capability.
In 2026, SCFC received grant funding to support two of our coaches to complete their C Licence qualification, while a further 10 coaches, players and community members undertook the Foundations of Football course. Through these initiatives, we are investing in women already coaching, while also building pathways for those who aspire to step into these roles in the future.
SCFC also secured funding to deliver female-specific strength and conditioning programs with sports physiotherapists ahead of the 2026 season. This tailored six-week program focused on the needs of female athletes, with the aim of reducing injuries, supporting women returning after childbirth, and helping all participants feel strong, confident and ready to enjoy the season. This sits alongside our ongoing commitment to providing sports trainers at every game.
