Missed the Women’s National Premier League Round 21? Here’s your wrap-up!
IN A NUTSHELL
The League Champions, Canberra Olympic, received their trophy after a match that proved that not all 0-0 draws are dull affairs. West Canberra Wanderers playing their part in that. There was ten for the Blue Devils, Alyssa Di-Campli ensuring the Golden Boot with three of them, ANU WFC bagging a double in reply, whilst Tuggeranong made Gungahlin work for their win at Kambah. Six goals down South as well!
GOAL OF THE WEEK
Hattie Cram’s first of two for Belconnen United get the nod this week, a crisp first-time finish that the young forward has been working on during extra training sessions, culminated a lovely Belconnen move. Incisive build-up, and a finish of quality.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
An emotional, heartwarming moment in the 55th minute of the Olympic versus Wanderers encounter as fifteen-year-old Lucija Peric, daughter of Olympic star Katrina, surprised her Mum by being given a substitute debut at the same time as Peric Senior entered the field at O’Connor. In a cunning plan that Baldrick from Blackadder, or the Greatest Bond Villains, would have been proud of, Head Coach Frank Cachia managed to manipulate the behind-the-scenes staff so that no-one knew until it happened. Devious perhaps, but worth it for the reaction from Katrina Peric which you can view on the Olympic Facebook pages. We are all softies at heart and Cachia’s Oscar winning deadpan display is our Performance of the Week.
