THE WEEKLY WRAP
NPL WOMEN: ROUND 14
Missed the Women’s National Premier League Round 14? Here’s your wrap-up!
IN A NUTSHELL
A first win for the 2024 season was the reward for ANU WFC who travelled to Kambah 2 and claimed a 2-0 win over Tuggeranong United and moved off the bottom of the table in the process. At the other end Belconnen United were held 2-2 at home by Canberra Croatia, handing the title advantage to Canberra Olympic, who had the bye, with Gungahlin moving level on points with the Blue Devils, having played a game more, after they won 2-0 at Wanderers.
GOAL OF THE WEEK
A brilliant strike from Tatum Mazis is the goal of the week. 25 meters from goal and despite Bronte Pyke marking her, the forward swerved a superb effort over Pinkiewicz for give her team a precious point.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
ANU WFC – a first win and a first clean sheet for the University club. The football played has been pleasant all season, but the goals are rare for ANU WFC. Albeit against the other team at the bottom of the table, a success was long overdue for the club who came to the NPLW with a bang last year but struggled to confirm in 2024.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
COMING SOON
A big weekend for Gungahlin United who have the chance to stamp their mark on the 2024 campaign when they meet Canberra Olympic at Gungahlin Enclosed. Belconnen United will be lurking for any slip-up, whilst hoping to get three points of their own as West Canberra Wanderers provide the opposition. Canberra Croatia meanwhile hosts Tuggeranong.
