Missed the Men’s National Premier League Round 19? Here’s your wrap-up!
IN A NUTSHELL
Yoogali took a giant leap towards salvation with a stunning 2-1 win over table-topping Gungahlin United, the knights gave themselves a chance of retaining their crown by seeing off Croatia by the same scoreline in the Croatia Derby, Tigers took control of the race for fourth with a win over the Panthers, and Steve Nealon got a hat-trick as Tuggeranong gave Olympic a lit to think about as they chase survival.
GOAL OF THE WEEK
A goal of monumental importance and a fine one at that. Darren Bailey won a header in midfield and Josh De Rossi took it in stride before smashing a drive from close to thirty metres that clattered in off the post. It helped Yoogali to a 2-1 win and might just be a goal that lives on in club history.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
A treble from a teenager. It’s words that we have written about Atiya Waraga, but this week it was Steve Nealon who took the plaudits with his first ever senior hat-trick. A poacher’ s header, a superb solo goal with a classical finish, and an ice-cool penalty helped Nealon to three and Tuggeranong to a 4-1 win over Canberra Olympic.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
COMING SOON
Massive matches. Huge connotations. With games running out, points are now more important than ever and Gungahlin United travelling to take on O’Connor Knights at the top of the NPL table is big. And we mean massive in every sense. Meanwhile, Yoogali fight on, a trip to the AIS and Tigers FC next on their must-win calendar, as Canberra Olympic are the visitors to Deakin stadium and Canberra Croatia a day later. Tuggeranong United can dent the Panthers finals hopes at Kambah 2.
