ANU FC have taken second-place in the Capital Premier League ahead of the final round of the season following a 4-0 victory over White Eagles at Woden Park on a cool Wednesday evening.
The University team, who saw their chances of promotion to the National Premier League fade away with the 1-1 draw against Queanbeyan City at ANU South on the weekend, rediscovered their form in time to see off the Eagles, and move into pole position to secure a place in the Qualification Final.
The visitors had the points effectively wrapped up before ethe half-time interval as they roared into a three-goal lead by the half-hour mark swamping the Eagles with a fast brand of exciting, effective football.
Experienced defender Jan Wojna opened the scoring for Tom Crossley’s team after only three minutes, an advantage that was doubled in the 24th minute as Jacob Hart struck for the sixth time this season.
After that it was simply a matter of what ANU FC could add, despite the best efforts of the Eagles to get themselves back into the contest. Visiting striker Hassan Alnuwaysir added the third four minutes after Hart’s goal, and sealed the points with his second, and eleventh of the CPL campaign, a minute into the second stanza.
The victory extended ANU FC’s unbeaten run in the league to nine matches ahead of Round 21 and the finals, the latter being when ANU FC often find their form.
